Issues with version 2.1.1 --> SOLVED

There are two known issues with version 2.1.1.

First issue

Wakaru would freeze after import of text by newly added "Copy to Library" command (available in the Web Browser) or by the "+" button of quick text or library.

The text is actually imported and the freeze occurs just after the import.

Second issue

It concerns only devices under iOS 5.
The ebook browser would crash when trying to analyze Kanji difficulty of ebooks.

A fix has been posted for both issues and is waiting for validation.

Version 2.1.1 is available

The main features for version 2.1.1 are :

  1. Integration of Hoshizora Bunko. It should allow access to more modern works than the ones available on Aozora Bunko

Issue with version 2.0.9 --> SOLVED

I have just realized that there is an issue with version 2.0.9 of Wakaru.
The app will hang on startup if the app has been previously exited when using the flashcard module.

The bug happens only on iPhones and iPod touches.

A fix is already posted to Apple and is waiting for validation.

Meanwhile, it is possible to use Wakaru by resetting the app. All you have to do is to go to iOS settings and turn on the "Emergency recovery setting". Then it is OK to relaunch Wakaru.

UPDATE : the update is validated and version 2.1.0 is available

[TIP] How to have furigana in your own text

Texts from Aozora Bunko have sometimes the reading of kanjis indicated with small kanas above the kanjis (furigana). You can have the same with your own text by using following symbols :

日本語《にほんご》
日本語|能力試験《のうりょくしけん》

The furiganas will extend until a kana or the |symbol is found.

You will have also to change the settings of your text file (library - edit and turn the switch  "aozora format" on).

"|" is unicode 0xFF5C.
"《" is unicode 0x300A.
"》" is unicode 0x300B.

New Wakaru update available

Version 2.0.8 is available on the App Store.

It includes some improvement on the selection tools for the ebooks :

  • a tap and slide will select the characters as expected
  • a long touch will automatically extend selection to adjacent same type characters (e.g. a long touch on a kanji will extend selection to kanjis but not to hiragana)

I have also added a link to the Midori dictionary, although the implementation does't support a button to link back to Wakaru as for the other external dictionaries. I have contacted the developer of Midori on this matter, but no answer yet.

The last addition is an improvement in the word lookup. If the search word contains a ku-no-jiten sequence in vertical mode as below :

it is automatically replaced in order to allow the dictionary lookup to work.
